What Are Australia's Big Things?

Australia's Big Things are a collection of oversized roadside sculptures and tourist attractions found across the country. The tradition started in the 1960s as a way for small towns to attract passing motorists, and it grew into a uniquely Australian phenomenon.

There are over 150 known Big Things spread from Queensland to Western Australia. Some celebrate local industries — like the Big Pineapple in Queensland or the Big Lobster in South Australia. Others are just wonderfully absurd, and that's exactly what makes them worth the detour.

Spotting Big Things has become a beloved road trip pastime for generations of Australians, and Freedom4x4 is here to make sure you don't miss a single one.
